Soundcore Rave

iF 2019 winner Soundcore Rave mini is one of two models in the Soundcore portable party speaker series from the Anker portable speaker range. It was designed to be the life of the party. That meant creating a visual experience to go with the beats. Our design approach always aims to balance two factors: design practice and design academic. They are like reality and dream – they come close, but they never cross.
Design in this category of speaker is usually quite aggressive but we opted for a more refined duality – controlled and minimal, yet keeping the double impact of powerful sound and strong light elements. The twin halo lights with breaks at the 6 and 12 positions provide a design language that informs the rest. And of course, on top of the visual design it needed to be portable and party-proof. We had to design for every possible situation, like accidentally getting dropped in the pool (which is why we went for IPX7 protection).
Meanwhile ergonomic features like the dual orientation handle ensure that the speaker is comfortable to carry – something any portable product should be mindful of. It’s a careful balance of design aesthetics and design purpose every step of the way. EQ sound and lighting controls can be fully customized through the Soundcore App. It all comes together to bring portable party speakers to a whole new level.
